Obligatoires pour tout type de navigation, les équipements individuels de flottabilité sont de deux types:
Gilets à flottabilité permanente (en mousse) :
Moins chers à l’achat mais plus encombrants, ces équipements assurent selon leur taille une flottabilité simple par mer calme jusqu’à une flottabilité active par mer agitée permettant notamment le retournement. Ces brassières ou gilets assurent par ailleurs à bord une certaine protection physique en cas de choc.
Plus chers à l’achat, ces gilets ont un encombrement réduit. Ils se portent sur les vêtements et allient sécurité et confort et permettent une meilleure mobilité lors des déplacements ou des manoeuvres. Il existe deux types de gilets gonflables :
– à déclenchement manuel.
– à déclenchement automatique (par immersion dans l’eau).
